Honey Harvest

Dan and Shay
Harvesting honey- I swear sometimes Nate is like a little kid and likes to try new hobbies all the time.  This is our 2nd year having bee hives and it has gone pretty good minus the few bee stings he has gotten.  This hobby has been fun because he is doing it with some of his friends - Dan Thatcher and Tom Aston.  On sat they came over and we harvested the honey out of the hives - it was fun the kids all played and we had a scone fry with fresh honey- so yummy!

Step 1:  You take the frames out of the white boxes and cut of the wax with a really hot electric knife- then you put it in the frames in the spinner (that big silver thing by Nate)
 Step 2:  You spin that around with spins four frames and spins the honey out of the frames which then comes out of the spout at the bottom;

Step 3:  you have to run the honey through some strainers and then you have fresh honey to eat!

Step 4:  Then you clean up all the sticky honey off of everything because it gets everywhere.
The kids all just played when they got tired of honey this is Wyatt and Turner playing a little golf in the back yard.

  1. I love that Nate still likes to 'play', to be curious, to start new adventures. Never lose that. Scones sound yummilicious!
